Shanga
Arusha’s Creative Hub for Social Impact

Shanga is Arusha’s hub for creativity and social change. Jewelry, glasswork, textiles — all made with care, skill, and mainly from recycled materials. The craftsmanship is impressive, but what really makes Shanga special is the people behind it. This is a place where individuals with disabilities can find meaningful work, whether as artisans, designers, or support staff, contributing to a thriving, inclusive community.

You can watch them at work, try your hand at a project, or simply take in the colors and textures. Every piece you buy supports the community and helps Shanga continue providing opportunities for people who might otherwise face limited options.

Travel Tips

  • Plan at least 1–2 hours to explore Shanga and try a hands-on activity.

  • Ask about workshops — you might get to make a glass bead or a piece of jewelry yourself.

  • It’s completely free to visit, but don’t be surprised if you end up wanting to take some artwork home.
