Night Game Drive
Tanzania’s Wildlife After Dark

There’s something undeniably magical about the African bush after dark. On a night game drive, the landscape transforms, and a whole new set of wildlife comes to life. Creatures that spend the heat of the day hidden—leopards, hyenas, genets, and bush babies—emerge under the stars, giving you a rare glimpse into their nocturnal world.

Unlike daytime safaris, the sounds of the night—the distant roar of a lion, the call of an owl, or the rustle of small animals in the underbrush—become part of the experience, heightening your senses and making the drive feel almost otherworldly.

Travel Tips

  • Safety first: Always remain inside the vehicle. Your guide knows the terrain and animal behavior, and following their instructions is crucial. Avoid shining lights directly at animals’ eyes; instead, use the vehicle’s spotlight under guidance.

  • Dress in layers: Even in Tanzania, evenings can be chilly. Bring a warm jacket or sweater, and consider a scarf or hat for extra comfort.

  • Photography tips: Avoid using flash—sudden bright light can disturb the animals. Low-light photography can be tricky, but don’t stress. Enjoy the moment and ask your guide for advice on how to best get the shot.

  • Timing: Night drives usually start shortly after sunset and last 2–3 hours.
